As many of you have already noticed, we are experiencing some issues with our work unit generators. We are working on a fix right now and will hopefully be back up to speed soon. Thanks for your patience.

On new fatty WUs

A batch of 500 WUs *_TRYP_* have been sent and will take TWICE as much to compute than normal. We are talking of 10 nanoseconds of simulation per WU! (for what most people still use big fat supercomputers). We need them for a very interesting publication we are preparing related to this experiment. Many thanks for the effort!

Downtime ended, Shortage of Workunits

English: The downtime went well and we are now running again as before. However due to the server being down, we got a lot of workunits back at once and the server is playing catchup again right now. The shortage will hopefully be over soon.

Welcome back from holidays with a new publication from GPUGRID

Thanks to all volunteers for their contribution in the run of all *JAN* tasks which finally lead to this scientific publication:
J. Selent, F. Sanz, M. Pastor and G. De Fabritiis, Induced Effects of Sodium Ions on Dopaminergic G-Protein Coupled Receptors, PLOS computational biology, 6, e1000884 (2010).

Download it here: http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pcbi.1000884

In this work we show how sodium ion can modulate the activity of an important protein receptor (dopamine D2 GPCR) a drug target for the treatment of diverse central nervous system disorders (e.g. schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease).

Downtime on Monday

English: On Monday the 23rd we will have a longer downtime period starting from 9:00 am CEST. During this period we will install the new server daemons needed for our next generation POEM++. The website should only be down for a couple of minutes if everything goes alright. The BOINC infrastructure underneath and also the mysql server will be down a bit longer. Thanks for your help and sorry for the inconvenience.

Rosetta@home related advances have been featured in the national media twice in the last month. The first advance was the design of a protein catalyst that joins two molecules in a way not found in Nature; this was reported in Science magazine in July. The second advance is the finding that FoldIt players can solve hard structure prediction problems; this was reported in Nature magazine this week. These advances were covered in the New York Times, the LA times, and likely in your local newspaper. Thanks to all of you for your contributions to Rosetta@home!

CASP over!

Finally the CASP protein structure assessment is over. Thanks to you we could process all HUMAN/SERVER targets in this year of CASP. Currently not all experimental structures are available for comparison with our prediction; we will keep you posted once they are. A big thanks again for making this huge effort and our participation possible!
